Central Asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan
Central Asia is a subregion of Asia that extends from the Caspian Sea in the southwest and Eastern Europe in the northwest to Western China and Mongolia in the east, and from Afghanistan and Iran in the south to Russia in the north. It includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The main highlight of traveling in Central Asia is Uzbekistan, which is situated in the heart of the region and was historically crossed by caravan routes, including the famous Great Silk Road. Uzbekistan is primarily known for its historical and cultural tourism. Two of the most significant historical cities, Samarkand and Bukhara, both UNESCO-listed heritage sites, are the gems of Central Asia.
Kazakhstan is the largest and most economically developed country in Central Asia. The national traditions and culture of the Kazakhs are rooted in the nomadic past of their ancestors, who roamed as whole tribes across the boundless Kazakh steppes.
Kyrgyzstan boasts an abundance of picturesque natural places, with over three-quarters of its territory occupied by the majestic mountains of Tien-Shan and Pamir Alay, often referred to as the Switzerland of Central Asia. Kyrgyzstan also holds onto its national traditions and nomadic customs, which have been shaped over centuries.
Tajikistan is the only Iranian-speaking state in Central Asia with its unique culture and traditions. Modern Tajikistan has evolved under the influence of the ancient customs of the Iranians, Persians, Islam, neighbouring Uzbekistan, and Soviet Russia. Our Central Asia tour includes only a brief day trip to Panjakent. Our private tour of Central Asia comprises 16 people and covers Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan (with a visit to the border town of Panjakent).
